A home isn’t a home without pets, and honestly, I’ve fallen deeply in furball love with each of them. But along the way, I’ve also discovered that not everyone sees pets the same way. Sadly, some people don’t treat their animals with the love and respect they deserve. Over the years, we’ve had the heartbreak of losing animals to poisoning — it felt like losing family members.

We even have paintings of many of our pets, lovingly created by my father-in-law (affectionately called Baba by the kids). But the moment I realised how deeply this love ran was the day our beautiful cat, Nougat, went missing.

Nougat was the sweetest, fluffiest boy — somehow always knowing when someone was having a rough day and curling up to comfort them. One day, he was just… gone. We searched for months, hoping to spot him on the way home, but he never returned. We had suspicions — there were threats, even a horrible letter filled with cuss words promising harm if our cats came near a certain property again. Whether he was poisoned or trapped, we’ll never know. But that loss — that feeling of helplessness — made something in me change.

I realised then that being a pet owner isn’t just about having animals — it’s about being part of a tribe of people who understand that these little souls are family. They depend on us, and we owe them love, care, and protection.

So, with our latest dachshund additions (our little boys!) and the constant inspiration of my wife and her incredible parents, The Paw Club was born. It’s more than a website — it’s a community, a movement for people who live by the code of compassion and kindness toward animals.

There are so many new pet owners out there — newlyweds adopting their first fur baby, families welcoming a rescue, or people who just love animals and want to make a difference. The Paw Club is for them — and for us — a space where we can learn, share, and celebrate the joy pets bring into our lives.

This first blog post marks the beginning of something I hope will grow far beyond me. I don’t know exactly what it will become yet — and that’s the beauty of it. This isn’t my vision alone. It’s ours.

So, here’s how you can help make this dream real:

🐾 Take the Ethical Pet Owner Pledge — a simple promise to put love and care first.

🐾 Join the community — share your stories, photos, and tips.

🐾 Contribute to the blog — write about your pets, rescues, or experiences.

🐾 Spread the word — invite other pet lovers to join The Paw Club.

Together, we can create a space that’s supportive, inspiring, and full of heart — a place where pet people feel right at home.

Welcome to The Paw Club. And to my wife Lindsay and her parents, Gagi and Baba — the true founding members — thank you for showing me what it really means to be a pet lover.
